Message from our President

Welcome to the Toronto Chapter of WTS!

2022 was an incredible year for the Chapter as we transitioned back to in-person events. We had great success with our virtual programs and events including our popular Mentorship Program and one of our flag-ship events, the breakfast for International Women’s Day. We were fortunate to be able to hold our Annual Golf Tournament. Lots of fun as we reconnected in-person on the links! Our Annual Dinner was truly spectacular. It was held at the beautiful Liberty Grand and the energy in the room was electric! At the dinner, we awarded our Scholarships to a talented group of future transportation professionals. Such impressive women. We also proudly announced our Honorary Members: Jay Pitter, award winning placemaker (jaypitter.com) and Corina Moore, recognized by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) as one of Canada’s Most Powerful CEOs. Such a wonderful event to cap off a busy and successful year!

The Toronto Chapter is looking forward to another great year with our amazing and inspiring community of women in transportation.  We started our year with a meaningful and inspirational dialogue at our February social to celebrate Black History. The moderator and panelists shared their insights and personal stories – and with the audience engaged in a thoughtful discussion. The Chapter is proud to host conversations around issues of equity and diversity – values at the core of our Chapter.

Our annual breakfast to celebrate International Women’s Day is sold out! We have a panel of women who will bring different experiences and reflections on this year’s theme of #embraceequity. It will be an event to uplift us and rejuvenate our commitment to equity.

Our Mentorship program was launched earlier this year with an in-person kick off event. Mentees and mentors bring a wide variety of skills and experience to the program. Mentees have the opportunity to build their professional network and receive guidance in their career development. Mentors share their experiences, also develop new connections and learn from their mentees about the challenges the next generation of leaders face.

This year, we will also continue with our scholarship program and award a number of scholarships to post-graduate students studying in the area of transportation. The Toronto Chapter is committed to doing our part to advance Truth and Reconciliation. To support meaningful change, the Toronto Chapter has created two scholarships specifically for Indigenous students. If you’d like to learn more, please contact [email protected].

Thank you to our talented Board of Directors and Committee members who lead this great work. On behalf of the Board, thank you to our sponsors for their support and commitment to the Chapter. And, of course, none of this would be possible without our members.

Thank you!
