WTS Scholarship Opportunities
WTS’s mission is to build the transportation industry by advancing women worldwide. WTS understands that transportation is far more than people and goods moving from one place to another. It drives growth and an integral part of communities throughout the world. Women’s leadership, skills, and perspectives are essential to ensuring that transportation systems of the future respond to everyone’s needs.
The San Francisco Bay Chapter and International organization encourage women to study and become leaders in transportation by offering scholarships. These are for studying transportation and related fields such as aviation, city planning, engineering, environmental science, logistics, maritime operations, political science and public policy in college and trade schools.
There are six scholarships for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students. The local and International amounts differ. The same application works for both levels; the local winner gets submitted to National. You can apply to more than one of these scholarships. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions.
Applications are due January 6, 2025.

The Wendy Tao International Smart Cities Scholarship 2025
The Wendy Tao International Smart Cities Scholarship supports innovative, discrete projects related to sustainable transport and smart cities that can bring international (non-U.S.) experience to bear in California. Projects should be inspired by this scholarship and should include at least one international trip. The funds are to be used to offset travel expenses (airfare, lodging, meals) and other costs associated with an international project.
Projects could include a broad range of activities — expert or government interviews, data collection, conference participation, collaborative work, visits to businesses or government agencies, tours and inspections of transportation systems, and more. Projects funded through this scholarship can be a discrete component of a larger consulting or dissertation project, as long as the component can be completed within the scholarship duration specified below. Applicants are encouraged to be creative, brave, and resourceful. Use this link to apply!
Applications are accepted between November 15, 2024, and February 15, 2025, at 11:59p.m. (For application issues, please contact [email protected].)
