About Us

The Portland Chapter was founded in 1985, and has grown to over 240 members. The Portland Chapter Board is composed of a six-member executive board and 12 committee chairs, who are installed in January.  Board members serve one or two year terms, and direct day-to-day activities of our chapter.

WTS Portland hosts seven lunch presentations from September to April each year (excluding December) where speakers range from technical experts, to project representatives and political leaders.  We also host two large events each year:  The Spring Event serves as our main fundraiser for our scholarship program in addition to the presentation of chapter awards; at the Winter Event we announce our annual scholarship winners and the Project of The Year award. We also provide professional development opportunities, member-only events, and tours throughout the Portland region. In 2014, we began working with members in the Mid-Willamette Valley and Vancouver, Washington to plan events in these areas. See all of our upcoming events here.

Our mentoring program includes a 6 to 9 month program pairing emerging transportation professionals with seasoned members. Our annual leadership training cohorts, Leadership Excellence and Development (LEAD) and Leadership for Emerging Professionals (LEAP), provide selected applicants a free two-day career and personal growth workshop.

Our Transportation YOU program began in January 2012 and is focused on engaging middle school girls. Participants attend a 10-week series of presentations and tours on different aspects of the transportation industry.

The Portland Chapter is proud to have hosted the WTS International Conference in May 2014. Nearly 400 WTS members and supporters from around the country attended. We received great feedback on the sessions, speakers and tours.
