On behalf of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the WTS-Baltimore Chapter, we wanted to reach out to our membership in honor of Pride Month to celebrate and recognize the achievements of those members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are working hard to continue the development of programming and activities that achieve equity and fairness in transportation for all.

In honor of Pride Month, we highlight changemakers dedicated to educating and campaigning for issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community. WTS is committed to combating homophobia, developing activities, raising awareness that will eliminate prejudice, and facilitating collaborations and discussions throughout the industry. Although we have made significant progress in protecting the LGBTQIA+ community's fundamental rights, much more work must be done.

The original rainbow flag represents all people under the umbrella of the LGBTQ+ community. This new Pride flag was designed in 2018 and has become a universal symbol for the modern queer community. The white, pink, and light blue chevron design on the Progress Pride Flag reflects the colors of the Transgender Flag, while the brown and black stripes represent marginalized people of color. The black stripe has a dual meaning: It also honors those lost to HIV/AIDS and is a nod to the stigma surrounding those still living with HIV.

We honor members of the LGBTQIA+ community at the forefront of making an impact on society’s most pressing issues affecting members of the community. As we continue the mission and goals of our committee, we hope you will consider joining us to bring new ideas, activities, and participation to enhance and improve our outreach efforts.

We thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any thoughts or ideas. We welcome your comments.
