SDOT Vision Zero Research and Data Intern

Location: Seattle, WA
Salary: $26.71 – $29.72 (hourly)

The Seattle Department of Transportation is committed to Vision Zero and working to end serious injuries and fatalities on city streets by 2030. SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and data-driven individual to support the Vision Zero team. This intern will help the Vision Zero team manage, update, and maintain the data that drives our decisions, and will analyze and report on data findings that will inform our program’s actions. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of skills in statistical testing, geospatial processing and analysis, literature reviews, and an excitement to learn about Seattle’s roadway system. This candidate should be comfortable with data analysis design, development, and implementation and the maintenance of dashboards, visualizations, datasets, and reports. This internship is full time during the summer with the option to extend into the school year.

SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Transportation Planner (Strategic Advisor 2) within our Policy & Planning Division’s Transportation Planning section. The Principal Planner leads a variety of multi-disciplinary transportation planning and policy development projects. These projects may be citywide in scale, or focused on a specific transportation corridor, neighborhood, or station area. Representative projects include the Seattle Transportation Plan, station access plans for new light rail stations, integrated network planning, mode-specific network planning, bridge planning services and policy updates to manage emerging mobility and support electrification of the right-of-way.

SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and people-oriented Supervising Senior Project Manager (Strategic Advisor 2) in our Project Management group within the Capital Projects Division.  This senior project manager will manage complex capital projects while also supervising 2 – 3 subordinate project managers including project oversight and personnel support. This key leader also supports the Project Management group by providing guidance, industry expertise, and mentorship to more junior team members, as well as leads initiatives for process improvement and increased communication with SDOT partners and project stakeholders such as other City staff and contractors.

Graduate Intern — External Relations Transportation

Location: Seattle, WA
Salary: $29.76 – $31.76

This is a full-time summer internship. This position will allow you, a graduate student in Transportation (from viewpoint of urban planning, public policy, sustainability, freight and goods movement, aviation access, industrial/maritime real estate or engineering), new opportunities to develop analyses, conceptualize solutions, frame strategic planning, and advocate for Port business interests.  You will work with port staff, partner agencies and/or community stakeholders. Tasks may include:  

  • Assist in the development, review and commenting of partner projects, planning documents or environmental reviews 
  • Lead and develop one or more projects internal to the Port or research an emerging issue for the port transportation strategy 
  • Work with Senior Manager to update strategic framework and annual work plan for internal Port team, integrating inputs from across the port (aviation, maritime, economic development) 
  • Propose, then implement, approved recommendations to improve the regional transportation website
