Transportation Trivia

On February 18, WTSCVA hosted a transportation-themed trivia event at Buskey Cider! Proceeds from the event benefit the WTS Foundation Fund, which provides scholarships to students pursuing transportation as a career and helps introduce middle- and high-school students to the transportation industry. Hosted by WTSCVA Scholarship Chair Anna Settlemyer, the trivia covered topics such famous women in transportation, recognizable bridges across the US, and cars in fiction.
Thank you to all who attended! Congratulations to the winning team: Wallace Montgomery's team, "First Place." A huge thank you to Timmons Group who sponsored the event. This year's event was so successful that it raised enough funds to support awarding $1,000 of scholarships in 2026! Stay tuned for next year’s Transportation Trivia event, as well as other ways to support WTS Foundation and our local Central Virginia community!

Women's History Month: Career Spotlight with Michelle Roberts, PE, CCM
On March 19, 2025, the Central VA chapter hosted a virtual conversation with Michelle Roberts, PE, CCM, Mid-Atlantic Commercial Management Lead at HDR. Michelle was named one of ENR MidAtlantic’s top 20 under 40 in 2020. She has extensive project and construction management experience, and she is skilled in value engineering, project estimation, CPM scheduling, and constructability. During this engaging virtual event, Michelle shared reflections on her career, the significance on being an effective leader, the importance of mentorship throughout your career, and advice for other women in transportation. We are thankful to have had Michelle give her time and insight to attendees, and we are proud to have honored her during Women’s History Month.

Transportation YOU Volunteers Needed
For the past four months, our membership has partnered with NextUp and City of Richmond Public Schools to offer our Transportation YOU weekly after-school sessions. For 2024, we worked with both Lucille M Brown and Thomas Henderson Middle School to bring STEM to 15 young women. We plan on volunteering again during the Fall Session (September - December) of the 2025-2026 School Year. From January - June, Transportation YOU will be focusing on our Transportation YOU webinars, attending career fairs and in-school presentations. Current members, in good standing, interested in volunteering their time should complete the volunteer form found here. Unable to volunteer your time, but still want to help out? Contact Savannah Amor Kappeler if your company is interested in sponsoring one of our weekly sessions.
