WTS-Boston Member on the Move: Kate Maker, Toole Design
WTS-Boston member, Kate Maker, has recently accepted the position of Civil Engineering Deputy Practice Director, North America at Toole Design. Toole Design is committed to designing and building spaces where people can move freely and intuitively, enjoying the experience and becoming a part of the community instead of just moving through it.
Kate is a registered professional engineer with over 18 years of experience most recently serving and successfully managing several large on-call contracts with MassDOT. Kate is passionate about providing equitable transportation options for all, regardless of race, age or ability.
Kate will be instrumental in helping Toole continue to grow the civil practice across the firm and strengthen firm-wide design proficiency. She will be leveraging her experience and expertise to guide the development of training programs, establishing best practices, and ensuring quality control procedures are followed. Kate will also be serving as the Principal-In-Charge or QC Lead on signature company design projects around North America.
Her work in the transportation industry has earned her accolades from her peers, including the 2020 WTS-Boston Member of the Year Award. Notably, Kate ensured continuous virtual WTS content during the COVID-19 pandemic when in-person events were prohibited. A devoted member of WTS-Boston, Kate has co-chaired the Programs and Professional Development committee and was recently selected to serve on the Board.
Kate is dedicated, intelligent, and accomplished in the industry. She enjoys using her skill set to improve our built environment, mentor staff, and ensure we are meeting our client’s needs. Kate is a graduate of Northeastern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a minor in business.
