WTS-Boston Call for Nominations - Board of Directors and Officers

In accordance with WTS-Boston Bylaws, the Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the 2021-2022 officer positions of President and Vice President and three (3) Directors-at-Large positions. All five positions shall have two-year terms.

  • PRESIDENT
  • VICE PRESIDENT
  • Three (3) DIRECTORS-AT-LARGE

How To Apply

Criteria for selection of all candidates include: WTS membership and participation, leadership roles within the organization or place of employment, endorsement by employer, public/private balance on the Board, reflection of diversity of the membership, and the extent to which the slate reflects the overall goals and mission of WTS-Boston and WTS-International. Once a slate is approved by the WTS-Boston Board, ballots will be mailed to all current WTS-Boston members for approval. If any of these positions are of interest to you, please complete the Nomination Form no later than 5:00 P.M. on September 25, 2020 and return via email to Rebecca Williamson, PE, Nominations Committee Chair and WTS-Boston Past President, [email protected]


Information about Role Responsibilities

PRESIDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The President shall be the chief executive officer of the WTS-Boston Board of Directors and shall perform all duties incident to the office of President. The President’s responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Chairing all Board meetings and meetings of the membership
  • Appointing Committee Chairs
  • Signing checks, and other official documents for the organization
  • Reviewing committee materials for events, programs, initiatives, etc.
  • Reviewing all chapter communications
  • Supporting the Board in ensuring their responsibilities are being met
  • Presiding over large events such as luncheons and special programs ( e.g., Leadership Breakfast, Awards Banquet)
  • Filing for Directors and Officers and Professional Liability Insurance annually
  • Authoring President’s message for eblast
  • Participating in conference calls with WTS International (WTSI) and other Chapter Presidents
  • Acting as point of contact for the Chapter to WTSI generally
  • Promoting opportunities for WTS-Boston exposure to the greater transportation and women’s community
  • Coordinating with public officials and leaders in the transportation industry
  • Organizing “transition meeting” at beginning of calendar year
  • Promoting the mission of WTS to attract, sustain, connect and advance women’s careers to strengthen the transportation industry

 

VICE PRESIDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice-President shall support the President and shall perform all duties required of the office of President, as described under the President Responsibilities, when the President is unable to do so and as requested by the President. In addition, the Vice-President’s responsibilities shall include:

  • Assisting the President in the management of Chapter operations
  • Signing checks, and other official documents for the organization
  • Organizing a Strategic Planning session in the 2nd year of her term
  • Working closely with the Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Directors in ensuring their responsibilities are being met
  • Attending and voting at monthly Board Meetings
  • Reviewing all chapter communications
  • Promoting and encouraging growth of the WTS-Boston organization and the involvement of members
  • Chairing nomination committee (or designates another if VP is on the ballot) according to Chapter bylaws
  • Coordinating head table at luncheons and special projects events
  • Promoting the mission of WTS to attract, sustain, connect and advance women’s careers to strengthen the transportation industry

 

DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director must be a member in good standing and is responsible for upholding the mission of WTS-Boston in the management of the organization and the execution of its business. The Director is also responsible for representing one or more standing committees to the WTS Board of Directors. The Director’s specific roles and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Attending and voting at monthly Board Meetings
  • Promoting and encouraging the growth of the WTS-Boston organization and the involvement of the members
  • Representing one or more committees to the Board of Directors
  • Delegating responsibility and providing support to committee chairs
  • Reporting relevant business of the Board of Directors to the committee chairs and vice versa
  • Submitting periodic updates on committee activities at Board meetings
  • Submitting an annual budget to the Board of Directors on behalf of the committee(s)
  • Meeting with the committee chairs once at the beginning of each calendar year to establish the goals for the year
  • Reviewing the committee’s section for inclusion in the WTS annual report
  • Attending at least two (2) committee meetings per year
  • Taking leadership roles for special initiatives as needed. Examples: Nominations Committee, scholarship application evaluations
  • Promoting the mission of WTS to attract, sustain, connect and advance women’s careers to strengthen the transportation industry
