An employee-owned organization, Weston & Sampson’s corporate mission to “protect, improve and sustain the natural and built environment to enhance the quality of life” is reflective of WTS’ mission and vision to advance both the transportation industry and the women who lead it. In addition to supporting WTS financially and with volunteer time, the firm delivers on transportation projects, such as the $2.3 billion program management for the Green Line Extension (GLX). GLX is already transforming the region and creating opportunities for many residents, particularly women and minorities.

According to Women in Engineering, in 2021, only 14% of engineers in the workforce were female. At Weston & Sampson, 32% of the engineers are women and 21% of the corporate leaders are women, including the current President, Barbara Cook. Not only does Weston & Sampson hire more women engineers than the national average, flexible schedules and a collaborative, supportive work environment result in retention rates for women well above the national average. With a commitment to family first, Weston & Sampson supports the balance between work and family life and is one of the reasons for high employee retention numbers.

Weston & Sampson is committed to the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA). As part of this important initiative, their goal is to foster a true sense of belonging, equitable representation across the organization, and the empowerment of employees to incorporate IDEA values into the work they perform.

In the last five years, the firm has nearly doubled in size to nearly 800 people. A large portion of that growth is in transportation along the east coast and WTS played a significant role through access and visibility.
