Welcome Caltrans District 7 District Director Tony Tavares
On January 27, 2021, WTS-LA hosted a lunch program featuring guest speaker, Tony Tavares, who was recently appointed Caltrans District 7 Director. Director Tavares returns to Los Angeles, where he began his career with Caltrans 30 years ago. Most recently, he was Director of District 4 in the Bay Area.
Eighty-five attendees listened in as Director Tavares described his vision for Caltrans District 7 as a leader in transportation equity and the district's alignment with Caltrans' priorities: Safety, Modality, Innovation, Efficiency, and Engagement. He answered questions from the attendees about hiring, active transportation, sustainability, and project delivery. Three members of Director Tavares' leadership team were in attendance: Gloria Roberts, Chief Deputy District Director and WTS-LA Director at Large; Barbara Marquez, Deputy District Director for Sustainability and Innovation and WTS-LA Transportation YOU Co-Chair; and Blanca Rodriguez, Deputy District Director of External Affairs.
This was the first program for WTS-LA's 2021-2022 Chapter President Jenelle Saunders (Berg & Associates). WTS-LA Vice President Heather Anderson, PE (HNTB) introduced Director Tavares.
