Spotlight on Member of the Year Lisa Saldin
Each month we are featuring one of our 2021 WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Awards recipients. This month we are spotlighting Member of the Year, Lisa Saldin with WSP USA. Lisa worked jointly with our other Member of the Year Award Recipient, Amanda McGennis, as the 2020 WTS International Conference Co-Chairs. Lisa and Amanda are essential members of our chapter and jointly worked together to pull off what would have been a showcase event for our chapter, our city and WTS International.
We talked with Lisa about why she became involved in WTS and why other women can benefit from volunteering their time as well.
How did you first become involved in WTS?
When I was first starting my career, I’m grateful that a few co-workers introduced me to WTS and invited me to attend the monthly luncheons. From there, I joined the mentorship program and after that joined my first committee.
What would you say to someone who was considering joining our chapter or taking on a role with a committee?
For someone considering taking on a role with a committee, I would tell them the same thing that was shared with me… that taking on a committee role is a great opportunity to learn leadership skills which can then be applied to your own career advancement. I would also add that it is another way to meet more people in the organization to expand your network and build great friendships.
What is one thing you think every WTS member should do to get more out of their WTS experience?
Be active in whatever way you can. The more I have participated in WTS the more I have gained.
Who is your biggest source of inspiration and why?
My biggest source of inspiration is my parents. They both consistently demonstrate the values of integrity, kindness and working hard to achieve your goals.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
That’s easy… Diet Coke. ?
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not at work?
Cooking, baking, and watching food competition shows, so anything that involves food.
