Philly on the Move: Gearing up for 2026!
Philly is on the move and gearing up for 2026!
WTS Philadelphia hosted a luncheon and panel discussion in Old City – the center of the action – to discuss preparations for 2026 which features America’s 250th birthday celebration, the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All Star Game, the PGA 108th Championship, and NCAA March Madness Games. We were joined by Din Abazi, PennDOT District 6 Executive, Mike Carroll, Deputy Managing Director of oTIS for the City of Philadelphia, Atif Saeed, CEO of City of Philadelphia’s Department of Aviation, and Shakirah Smith, Program Manager for 2026 Special Events for SEPTA. In a discussion moderated by Danielle DiLeo Kim, President and CEO of Philadelphia 250, the panel discussed efforts underway to make our area ready to accommodate the influx of visitors coming to our region.
We will see wayfinding and translation assistance, increased transit service, reworking of maintenance to avoid lane closures, improved public spaces and recreation areas, and other measures to make this exciting time pleasant for both visitors and full-time residents. We will see an escalation of projects and initiatives already in progress or planned – These are efforts that will now happen faster than they might otherwise, and the residents of the Philadelphia region will be able to enjoy these improvements into the future!
