PARK(ing) Day
We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Friday than to relax and dream of transportation in our very own park during PARK(ing) Day!
PARK(ing) Day is an annual event that raises awareness regarding the need for green spaces and more pedestrian-friendly areas in urban environments across the country. It brings together activists, artists, architects, and other citizens to transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. The event encourages everyone to reimagine the possibilities of a parking spot while celebrating parks and other public spaces.
For the event, WTS Philadelphia converted 140 square feet of public space (a parking spot) on Market Street into a mini museum focused on the past, present, and future of transportation highlighting a few iconic developments throughout the city and region. We spotlighted women who have led and been involved in significant projects at these locations and who are a part of our WTS Philadelphia chapter. As folks walked through our transformed public space, they were able to learn about the history of key transportation projects and the people involved as well as think about what they would like to see in the future of our beautiful city. It was a lovely day catching up with friends and colleagues as well as connecting with other students, professionals, and pedestrians passing by.
