Akeba Jackson receives WTS-LA Educator of the Year Award

Akeba Jackson began her teaching career in 1998 with the Hawthorne School District, serving as a middle school Language Arts teacher for four years. In 2003, she transitioned to Santa Monica High School for one year before joining the Los Angeles Unified School District in September 1994. There, she taught English at Dorsey High School for nine years and has spent the last eleven years as Dorsey’s Magnet Coordinator, totaling 20 years of dedicated service at Dorsey High School.
Ms. Jackson is also a strong supporter of WTS-LA and its Transportation YOU program. As a result, many Dorsey students have won scholarships. But the bigger result is that Ms. Jackson has helped transform their lives, showing them a path to success in life that may not have existed for them before her intervention. Dedicated, fearless, and selfless, Akeba Jackson defines what an educator should be, someone who provides her students with the most powerful tools to change their world. For these reasons and many more that WTS-LA awarded the 2024 Educator of the Year award to Ms. Jackson.
