Mentor-Mentee Summer Gathering
On Tuesday, August 27th, our WTS Student Chapter hosted a Mentor-Mentee summer gathering to celebrate and honor the WTS Student Chapter Mentor Program participants.
This program connects students with professional mentors across various transportation fields to provide insights and guidance while in school and after graduation. This year, there were 20 pairs of students and mentors in the program. The event began with every Philadelphian’s favorite treat: water ice.
During dessert, the mentors and mentees were given a sheet of paper containing icebreakers. The mentors and mentees rotated amongst each other to answer each others’ various questions. The mentees connected with their mentors while also meeting other professionals at the event for the first time. The mentors were able to meet with their fellow peers in the transportation industry and the mentees learned valuable networking skills.
Over the course of this year, mentors and mentees were guided through the program with packets related to various topics critical to the mentees future in the transportation industry. These topics include goal setting, time management, and receiving feedback. The WTS Philadelphia Student Chapter extends its heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors and the dedicated professional volunteers from various engineering firms and public agencies who participated as mentors in this year's program. The mentor program served as an invaluable opportunity for students to gain knowledge and experience, and we are immensely appreciative of our ability to offer this support to them on their educational and professional journey.
