Learn From a Leader: Juggling Career & Caregiving without Dropping the Glass Ball

On May 29th, we kicked off the Learn From A Leader summer series with a panel titled, “Juggling Career & Caregiving without Dropping the Glass Ball,” hosted at Gilmore & Associates’ office in Center City.

The event was well attended with 79 people tuning into the virtually and 32 people in person. Alex Atiyeh, PMP, Project Manager at H&K, moderated the panel, which included Jennifer Walsh, P.E., Traffic & Planning Section Manager at HDR; Smitha Mathew, Acting Assistant Director at the Transportation Planning & Analysis unit for the City of Philadelphia; Tummona Fisher, Community Relations Manager at PhilaPort; and Erica Antoine, P.E.; Project Manager at Burns Engineering.

The panel discussed motherhood and caregiving while successfully navigating a career. Insights into overcoming pivotal moments and challenges, fostering a supportive network and culture, managing guilt and societal pressures, and self-care were shared. The event concluded with an audience Q&A which led the discussion to dive deeper into strategies for build a support network, maintain relationships, and the need at times to outsource help. It was a successful conversation broaching personal and often difficult topics that affect everyone at some point in their life.
