It's Sunny Again in Philadelphia!
We held a virtual event on July 24th featuring an all-star panel of leaders bringing Philadelphia and our transit systems back, dispelling old perceptions to increase safety and security, transit ridership, and visits to our City.
Over 95 attendees were joined by Lt. Jessica Gabe, Lieutenant of Police with the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department; Clint Randall, Vice President of Economic Development with Center City District; Elizabeth Smith, Chief of Staff with Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA); and Adam Geer, who has been appointed the City’s very first Chief Public Safety Director for the new Office of Public Safety for the City of Philadelphia.
The discussion was wide-ranging, covering a vast array of strategies underway to ensure people feel safe and secure in order to use transit and visit the City. The keys to ensuring a vibrant Philadelphia include close coordination between these organizations and others to make frequent contact and offer services to those who may be unhoused or unwell, physical presence by officers, ambassadors, or other uniformed employees, leveraging technology for calls for assistance via app or phone as well as monitoring cameras for early action and to enforce fare collection, increasing presence by other riders and visitors, and ensuring the highest degree of cleanliness possible. And the last key to dispelling old perceptions and securing the long-term health of our City and systems is you – Spread the word of your good experiences in the City and on transit and tell them Philly is where it’s at!
