On June 7th, TrYOU mentors volunteered at Blackwood Elementary School and conducted three fun and engaging activities with over 30 fifth graders. The students had a blast with the civil engineering principles introduced to them to improve our everyday lives!
Activity #1: Students created an earthquake-resistant design with the use of cardboard to simulate an earthquake to demonstrate how isolation bearings can help prevent a building from shaking.
Activity #2: Students built paper bridges to test the foundation and how much weight they can hold with coins.
Activity #3: This was a compost filter sock activity that demonstrated stormwater management through various porous pavement samples.
TrYOU looks forward to fostering our partnership with Blackwood Elementary School throughout the 2024-2025 school year!
