HERstory - Women in Leadership
Closing out March and Women’s History Month, we held a panel event - HERstory - to give some of the prominent, dynamic women in leadership in our region a platform to discuss their professional, and sometimes personal journeys that led them into their current roles.
The sold-out luncheon featured Chellie Cameron, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia; Yassmin Gramian, Former Secretary of PennDOT; Ariella Maron, Executive Director of DVRPC; and Leslie Richards, General Manager of SEPTA. Moderated by our own chapter President, Api Appulingam, the discussion was inspiring and wide-ranging – covering career successes and regrets, advice for navigating workplace challenges, and reflection on the impact of COVID-19 that forced many of us take a step back from our careers and gain some perspective, all with an emphasis on bettering the future for women in our field.
Advice provided to attendees included:
- Develop a deep bench of support.
- Focus on mentorship and sponsorship.
- Maintain an emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work as we look to the future and see how women will influence the transportation sector.
