Shaping the Future of Infrastructure - and Careers

Jennifer Aument - Executive Vice President, Global Business Line Chief Executive, Transportation

We are at a transformational moment for transportation infrastructure – a period being shaped by historic investment and the creative use of technology and diverse thinking to advance social impact and sustainability.

What’s exciting to me as a transportation junkie is that each of us, no matter the role we play, can influence what’s ahead. This includes bringing more women into our industry to meet rising labor demands as billions of dollars flow into the market to modernize America’s roads, bridges, transit systems and more.

In this environment, ideas and varied perspectives are important currency in thinking through not just what’s delivered, but how projects are pursued, funded, made operational or sustained over their lifecycles. At AECOM, we believe equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) enable better outcomes for clients, a deeper understanding of community challenges and more innovative solutions that propel the industry forward.

Consistent with this, AECOM has set a near-term target of women comprising at least 20% of senior leadership roles and at least 35% of the overall workforce. Clients such as SEPTA, PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Water Department, and CSX are already benefitting from the expertise of colleagues like Orla Pease, Alanna Strohecker, Caitlyn Cavanagh, Assunta Daprano, Carol Boehm, Linell Homentosky and Noreen Nolan and many, many other incredible women leaders.  WTS has inspired these women to rise to the challenge of this historic time.

In my experience, periods of change create opportunities for professional growth for those who step up, and those we raise up.

So, think big. Challenge yourself. Share your ideas and engage. Get involved in projects that extend your skill set. It’s a sure path to advancing your professional growth and shaping the future of transportation.
