Chapter Sponsors Mentoring Pair to Attend 2023 WTS International Capital Summit
In June 2023, the WTS Puget Sound Chapter was excited to support Mikayla Hatch (Ciani & Hatch Engineering) as a mentor with our Seattle mentee (a local high school student) to Washington, DC for the WTS International Capital Summit.
Mikayla and our mentee had the opportunity to meet, connect, and learn from 55 other mentees and mentors from other WTS chapters across the United States. The Capital Summit consisted of classes and visits to learn about multimodal transportation, the wide variety of jobs that are required for transportation, higher education opportunities, and about how important accessible transportation is for all people, particularly marginalized groups.
The students and mentors had the opportunity to take a sunset boat tour on the Potomac River, complete a ropes course, visit the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Capitol, take the D.C. Metro, visit the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and Port of Baltimore, and tour the FHWA D.C. Research facility.
