Celebrating Transportation YOU with a End of Year Event
To celebrate the end of the 2022-2023 school year, WTS Philadelphia Transportation YOU (TrYOU) invited the mentees to Urban Engineers for an activity focused on team building, along with a presentation from this year’s TrYOU “Notable Woman in Transportation”, Esther McGinnis. The event included a discussion on teamwork, a hands-on Lego building challenge, and a presentation on Esther’s journey working in transportation.
Faye Majekodunmi presented the building blocks for successful teams including effective communication, trust, diversity, and emotional intelligence. The mentees and mentors then used these building blocks in their own teams during the hands-on Lego activity. Each team was challenged to work together to build a Lego model from memory. They were able to reflect on what made their team successful.
To close out the day, Esther McGinnis, Executive Vice President and Director of Environmental, Social, and Governance Program at Gannett Fleming, presented on her path to a career in transportation and the many roles she has filled during her career. She also discussed why mentors and networks are important to career growth and the many opportunities available in transportation.
