CDW Consultants Named Winner of the WTS-Boston 2021 Employer of the Year Award

Founded in 1990, CDW Consultants, Inc. (CDW) is an environmental and civil engineering consulting firm offering science-focused professional services for public and private sector clients. CDW has participated in many significant transportation projects in Massachusetts, including the Central Artery/Tunnel project and MBTA Green Line Extension -- two of the largest public works project in the nation. CDW is also the environmental compliance contractor for Keolis on its 12-year MBTA commuter rail operations contract.

True to their roots as a Women-Owned and Disadvantaged Business (WBE/DBE), CDW is committed to gender parity and since their founding, has consistently maintained a staff that is greater than 50 percent women across all levels. In 2020, they continued to hire and increased their staff size by 20 percent. The firm is committed to the professional development and advancement of all of its employees through specialized training and education reimbursement, and their personal growth by promoting local volunteer work in STEM activities, and events focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

CDW celebrated its 30th anniversary year in 2020, and also recognized the leadership of President Kathy Campbell. Hired by CDW as a young field engineer in 1993, by 2006 Kathy had risen to Vice President. In 2017, she acquired the firm’s majority ownership and became the President/CEO.

Kathy credits her leadership achievements at CDW to her active involvement in WTS-Boston, which she joined over 25 years ago. At different times she chaired the Professional Development, Fundraising, and Scholarship & Awards Committees, and supported and helped to plan four years of the wildly popular “Consultants are from Mars, Clients are from Venus” dinners. Kathy and many other CDW employees have served as leaders on committees and the Board of Directors. She also chaired the Programs Committee for both the 2003 and 2019 WTS International Conference in Boston. In 2006, she was awarded WTS-Boston Member of the Year. Kathy and CDW continue to financially support and emphasize the opportunities to succeed that WTS affords its members.
