Betsy Taylor Selected to Receive the WTS-Boston 2023 Woman of the Year
Betsy served as Chair of the MBTA Board as well as Chair of the MBTA’s Audit and Finance Committee from 2022 through April, 2023. She currently serves as member of the board for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and chair of its Finance & Audit committee since 2015, and serves as that Board’s representative to the MBTA Retirement Fund. She has been an elected member of the Massport Retirement System, winning the most votes in each of her three elections. Prior to her retirement in 2015, she spent 36 years at the Massachusetts Port Authority, ending her career as Director of Finance & Treasury. She was identified by the Bond Buyer in 2011 as one of their Trailblazing Women in Public Finance. At Massport, Betsy issued over $5 billion in revenue bonds, paid back half of that, and financed $5 billion in transportation infrastructure. She also led the team that created the Retiree Benefits Trust that is now over 50% funded, and introduced an electronic banking system. From 2015-2021, Betsy taught Financial Mobility at Believe in Success, a program for survivors of domestic violence by the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry in Roxbury, MA.
Living in Needham MA, she is married and has two grown sons. Betsy earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA from Oberlin College.
