Back to Basics: The Use of Pronouns
Pronouns are more than just grammatical tools; they reflect our identities and how we perceive ourselves and others.
Understanding and using the right pronouns is crucial to fostering respect and inclusivity and for creating a supportive environment for everyone. On October 29, 2024, Carol Martsolf and Cory Wyffels presented Back to Basics: The Use of Pronouns. During this virtual program, Cory and Carol discussed how to use pronouns, how to respectfully ask about someone’s pronouns and they provided strategies for incorporating them into daily interactions.
Organized by the WTS Philadelphia Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, this event tackled difficulties associated with this topic, including breaking the habit of assuming traditional binary pronouns and showing compassion when mistakes around pronoun use are made. The insights shared during this program not only emphasize the importance of pronouns in fostering an inclusive environment but also empower us all to engage in meaningful conversations that honor each individual’s identity.
