Capt. Jennifer Stockwell - Commander, Coast Guard Guard Sector Virginia
Capt. Jennifer Stockwell assumed duties as commander, Sector Virginia in June 2022, after serving two years as deputy commander. As Sector Commander she leads 1,200 Coast Guardsman and Auxiliary personnel, among three cutters, six small boat stations, three aids to navigation teams, and a Sector Field Office conducting all Coast Guard missions in Virginia waters and offshore. Her official authorities include Captain of the Port, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.
Stockwell is a 1998 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Environmental Sciences and earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2002 from The Johns Hopkins University. Her field assignments include USCGC Polar Sea (WAGB 11) as a student engineer, Marine Safety Office Corpus Christi, Texas as chief of the Port Management Department, Sector Southeastern New England as chief of inspections and investigations, Sector Hampton Roads as the assistant chief of inspections, and Sector San Francisco as prevention department head. Stockwell’s staff assignments include the Coast Guard Headquarters Office of Hazardous Materials Standards, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area, and most recently Chief of Inspections and Investigations at the Coast Guard 5th District. She has responded to numerous major incidents, including Hurricane Gustav, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, and Deepwater Horizon.
Stockwell is a native of Bloomfield, New York and is married to Cmdr. Blake Stockwell, USCG (retired), and they have four children.
