Communities throughout the U.S. are facing progressively devastating wildfires, floods, and other events made worse by climate change. In California, 15 of the 20 most destructive wildfires were sparked in the last decade. As projects are planned in or adjacent to very high wildfire hazard zones, questions arise about the effects of new development or network changes on wildfire risk and evacuation times. Our panel will describe how state, county, and local agencies are approaching these challenges.
Our Emerging Field of Wildfire Evacuation Assessments Panel includes:
- Chelsea Richer, Moderator, Climate Practice Leader, Fehr & Peers
- Nicole Rinke, CA Deputy Attorney General – State Guidance on Analyzing and Mitigating Wildfire Impacts of Development Projects
- Tami Lavezzo, Sonoma Technology – Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) County Wildfire Evacuation Routes Risk Assessment
- Ashlee Takushi, Fehr & Peers – Local Evacuation Planning and Route Capacity Analysis
