The interactive training will be focused on our experience in the transportation industry as planners, engineers, architects, technicians, public administrators, etc; but is welcome to any industry professionals! No previous training or experience in DEI required. There will be a dedicated facilitator for the online attendees and a separate facilitator for in-person. Unlike last training, the online and in-person presentation portions of the training will be separate.  

This introductory training on exploring common language and biases is about challenging ourselves to be present and understand the power of our words. As we navigate different cultures, generations, identities, and lifestyles, we must continue to ask ourselves, "Are we using language that upholds our individual and company values?" Inclusive language is less about restricting one's speech. Instead, it is a collective commitment to expanding our understanding of others and practicing the language that embodies values of respect, inclusion, and accountability. In this session, we will start to unpack how everyday biases and stereotypes impact how we communicate and learn strategies to help us interrupt and challenge these behaviors when they occur. Through this process, we will explore more inclusive language to practice and share. An open mind and willingness to share your experiences are recommended for all participants.
